From Coal to Climate Change Tour
GMT
Summerlee staff will take visitors on a special tour of Summerlee focussing on the iron and coal industries in Coatbridge and the impact the town, and the wider industrial revolution, had on climate change.
The tour will use the archaeological site of the Summerlee Ironworks as well as exhibits in the main display to develop an understanding of emissions levels during the Victorian era. A visit to the social history displays, such as the miner’s cottages, will help develop an understanding of how Victorian lifestyles interacted with polluting industries.
Tour lasts around one hour and involves walking around the site. Visitors should wear flat shoes and clothing suitable for the weather on the day, as some of the tour will be outdoors.
