Lost Creatures and Hidden Rivers
GMT
Mask-making, with kids colouring-in and cutting out pre-printed sheets, then assuming the identity of extinct ice-age creatures, whose fossil bones and teeth are sometimes found in local alluvial deposits. Games will explore stories of lost lands and changing climate over the last million years, and the struggle for survival.
We'll also be looking for evidence of glaciers, floods and changing river patterns still evident in the landscape - especially the evidence of abandoned river channels and giant ice-worn boulders that lie buried beneath the ground. Kids will be given their own divining rods - simple bent pieces of wire - to look for hidden anomolies buried beneath the grass, mark them with a flag, and guess what they might be.
